Project story
American Society of Retina Specialists
The American Society of Retina Specialists is the largest retinal organization in the world, representing over 2,400 members in all 50 states and over 55 countries, providing a forum to promote the understanding of vitreoretinal diseases and the advancement of related surgical procedures.
Choosing member references as part of online membership application
Webitects worked with ASRS to replace a dated website with a redesigned site with integrated content management and association management. We interviewed board members, staff, and attended the 2011 annual meeting to gather requirements and form a deeper understanding of the organization. As with many of our projects, conducting design research was an integral part of our process and lead to project insights that otherwise may not have been identified.
Member forums
Key project requirements included an abstract submission, voting, and scheduling system, membership applications with interactive reference collection and board / staff review, a member only message board, event and annual meeting registration, dues payment, member profile maintenance, and a searchable Find-a-Retina-Specialist directory.
The new website was built using Webitects' content management system (CMS) and web-based association management system (AMS). Our solution seamlessly integrates back office functions (member management, reporting, and data export) with member only functions. For example, profile updates submitted via the website by members are immediately seen by staff in the AMS (and vice versa).
Ongoing work includes an enhanced online presence for the Retina Times journal, the annual Preference and Trends (PAT) survey, CME tracking, and a searchable image bank.
